Preaching Minister Job Description

INTRODUCTION

This job description outlines the basic purpose, educational requisites, reporting relationships and responsibilities and duties for the Preaching Minister of the University Church of Christ.

BASIC PURPOSE

The goal for this position is to provide bold and dynamic leadership, ministry and service, focusing on the church’s mission of calling all people to be fully devoted followers of Jesus who pursue His lifestyle of celebrating God, serving others, and sharing God’s love.

EDUCATIONAL PREREQUISITES

At least a Bachelor’s Degree with studies in Bible and Ministry or equivalent from an accredited University or equivalent Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus, but not required

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Preaching Minister will report to the elders through a point of contact designated by the elders. The point of contact for the Preaching Minister is one of the elders, __(insert elder’s name here)____. The point of contact will provide mentoring, guidance, accountability, and regular evaluations (at least annually) for maintaining communication and feedback between elders, ministers, and congregation.

The Preaching Minister, under the direction of the elders, may make the following decisions and/or contributions: Content and presentation of preaching and teaching topics within the scope of the proposed curriculum Organizational leadership for the smooth operation of administrative offices and staff

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.Serve as Preacher for Sunday Assembly(ies)

  • Establish a consistent discipline of study and reflection
  • Deliver well-developed challenging sermons
  • Coordinate with the Worship Deacon and Team in the worship planning process

2.Serve in Adult Teaching Ministry

  • Rotate among Cross Training Classes to teach or participate in weekly teaching schedule
  • Participate in Small Group bible study as teacher, member and/or host
  • Be involved in planning and coordinating adult teaching curriculum
  • Provide leadership in congregational study (seminars, meetings, special issues, etc.)
  • Conduct one-on-one bible studies
  • Lead in evangelistic efforts

3.Serve as Coordinator of Ministry Staff

  • Work as effective member of ministry team
  • Establish leadership credibility with ministry team
  • Promote ongoing team development

4.Serve as Resource for Elders and Administrative Staff

  • Attend elders meetings as requested
  • Participate in regular prayer and study sessions with Elders and Ministers
  • Provide office and staff organizational management
  • Provide regular communication with elders and staff via email, monthly record of activities and reports of special events
  • Assist and participate in moderating staff and elder planning retreats

5.Serve as congregational Ministry Leader

  • Help congregation remain focused on mission and goals.
  • Provide organizational guidance and leadership in coordinating congregational events and activities
  • Be involved in member and non-member visitation
  • Conduct special events as requested (weddings, funerals, church activities, etc.)
  • Encourage and participate in interactive ministry efforts between various age groups in the congregation (youth connecting to adults, college connecting to youth, etc.)
